Knewton

What if you could prepare for your GMAT or LSAT test online at your own convenience? Knewton was preparing to revolutionize the standardized test prep industry long before announcing their presence. Their vision for the future of test prep courses required an entirely online curriculum with a system highly personalized and smarter than the average teacher. However, their timeframe was short and expectations were high.

We helped them succeed by:

  • - Identifying design personas with unique needs
  • - Validating assumptions with user testing
  • - Rapidly delivering specifications and guidelines

Challenge

Knewton asked Radiant UX to help them achieve their 3 main product design goals: 1) create a visitor website that would inform students and parents of Knewton’s exceptional services and motivates them to sign-up for courses, 2) to collaborate on content organization and interface functionality, and 3) to create a memorable brand identity.

Solution

Throughout the introduction to Knewton and its team, Radiant UX focused on learning the intricacies and logic of Knewton’s complex adaptive teaching system. Armed with a full understanding of standardized tests, adaptive learning and Knewton’s business opportunity within the test prep industry, Radiant UX combined interaction design expertise with Knewton’s subject-matter experts (teachers, testers, technologists) to transform a complex and intelligent system into an intuitive and engaging experience for multiple users.

"Knewton's adaptive-learning engine is the most innovative educational technology I've ever seen. They are going to revolutionize not just the test-prep industry but possibly the entire practice of education."

Greg Rorke
former Kaplan CEO

As teaching standards were questioned and innovative ideas elaborated, Knewton’s unique attributes became clearer, informing Radiant UX in the creation of a brand identity. The final logo and color palette reflect the sophistication, intelligence and revolutionary qualities of Knewton as a forward-thinking education brand.

Results

By closely collaborating with Radiant UX, Knewton was able to invite qualified users to experience the product, which offered opportunities to gather customer feedback and validate design decisions. Before the first class even started, Knewton was named one of 7 finalists in the Amazon.com Web Services Start-Up Challenge. This recognition helped prioritize internal development efforts and resolve critical issues in preparation for the first scheduled class.
